Hazard perception test: pass it before your practical exam
The hazard perception test is a mandatory step towards the Belgian category B licence: without it, no practical exam. You watch short clips filmed from the driver's seat and must spot hazards in time — a pedestrian hidden by a van, a swerving cyclist, a car door opening.

How does the test work?
In the click format — the one shown in the official Brussels tutorial — the mechanics are precise:

The video runs continuously
Each sequence, filmed from the driver's seat, plays continuously: you perceive and click as the video unfolds.

A click budget
You have a limited number of clicks, shown as bubbles. As soon as you perceive a hazard, you click on it with the orange pointer.

Inside the zone = hazard detected
A click inside the hazard zone detects it; any other click is wasted. No negative points — but the budget shrinks.

6 out of 10 to pass
The score counts detected hazards: you need 6 out of 10. A correction film then shows the zones you had to perceive.
In the multiple-choice format (Flanders, and according to some guides part of the AIBV centres), you watch the video without clicking, then answer multiple-choice questions — 1 to 3 correct answers, 15 seconds to answer.
Where, when and at what price, Region by Region
The test does not work the same way everywhere: in Brussels and Wallonia it is a separate hurdle to pass before the practical exam; in Flanders it is part of the practical exam itself.

Is the hazard perception test part of the theory exam?
No. It is a condition for taking the practical exam: in Brussels and Wallonia you must pass it before sitting the practical; in Flanders the GOCA Risk Perception Test is part of the practical exam itself.
How much does the hazard perception test cost?
In Wallonia, €17 per attempt, by appointment. In Brussels it is included in the price of the practical exam. In Flanders it is part of the practical exam — no separate paid sitting.
What score do you need to pass?
6 out of 10. In the click format there are no negative points: a click outside the zone is simply wasted, but the click budget is limited. In the GOCA format you answer multiple-choice questions (1 to 3 correct answers) after each video.
What happens after two fails?
In Wallonia, after 2 consecutive fails, 3 hours at an approved driving school are mandatory before trying again. In Brussels and Flanders no mandatory driving-school hours are documented: you simply retake the test.
Click or multiple choice: which format at my centre?
It depends on the Region and the operator: click format at Autosécurité and on the Brussels BruDrive platform; multiple choice in Flanders (GOCA). At AIBV, the official website describes the click format, but some guides describe multiple-choice questions — practise both. The selector on this page gives you the answer centre by centre.
Can I take the test in another Region?
No: theory, hazard perception and the practical exam must now all be taken in the same Region.
