Why Théorique en Poche

Everything you need to pass first time, without breaking the bank

Just like the real exam: 50 questions, the question is read out first, then 15 seconds to answer, −1 / −5 penalty scoring, with instant corrections. Try a few questions right here — no account needed.

The official exam is taken in French, Dutch or German — studying in English first makes the Belgian rules and vocabulary far easier to master.

True to the real exam

50 questions, 15 seconds to answer once the question has been read out, −1 for a minor fault / −5 for a serious one, and the rule that two serious faults mean a fail.

Made for expats

Frequently asked questions

The Belgian theory exam, in practice

Can I take the Belgian driving theory exam in English?

The official exam is taken in French, Dutch or German. Depending on the region, some exam centres offer special sessions with a sworn interpreter — check with your centre. Studying in English first makes the rules and the vocabulary much easier to master before you sit the exam.

How does the category B theory exam work in Belgium?

The exam takes place on a computer in an approved exam centre: 50 multiple-choice questions, with about 15 seconds to answer each question once it has been read out. You need at least 41 points out of 50 to pass.

How many mistakes are allowed on the theory exam?

Each minor fault costs 1 point and each serious fault (a 3rd- or 4th-degree offence, or speeding) costs 5 points. Two serious faults mean an automatic fail, even with 41/50. So you can lose at most 9 penalty points and make at most one serious fault.

How old do I need to be to sit the theory exam?

From age 17 for the category B licence. The pass certificate stays valid for 3 years to apply for the provisional driving licence.

What happens after failing the theory exam twice?

After two fails, you must follow 12 hours of theory lessons at an approved driving school before you can sit the exam again.

Can I practise for the theory exam for free?

Yes: on this page you can start a free 50-question mock exam without creating an account, read the free revision summary and follow the theory course. Full access (1,080 questions, unlimited mock exams) costs 4 € for 4 days.

Everything for your licence, in one place

The Belgian theory exam, from A to Z

The category B theory exam in Belgium

The official theory exam has 50 questions; you need 41 out of 50 to pass, and two serious faults mean an automatic fail. The 15-second timer only starts after the question is read out — exactly what our free mock exam, no sign-up reproduces. Note that the official exam is taken in French, Dutch or German — this site lets you practise in English so you understand every rule before sitting it. The licence FAQ answers the questions everyone asks.

The hazard perception test

In Brussels and Wallonia, the hazard perception test is a separate hurdle you must pass before the practical exam: dashcam-style clips where you have to spot hazards in time (pass mark: 6 out of 10). We are the only training filmed on real Belgian roads — two clips are free.

Moped licence, driving schools and the practical

The site also covers the AM (moped) licence with its own question bank. After your theory, you can look for a spot at a driving school — we let you know as soon as a partner school near you has an opening — and prepare for the big day with the real routes used by practical exam centres.
